How to Do a Resurrection Egg Hunt (and Keep Easter About Jesus)
If you’re anything like me, you don’t necessarily want to throw out traditions…
…but you also don’t want Easter to feel like it’s just about eggs, candy, and everything except Jesus.
The good news is—you don’t have to cancel the egg hunt.
You can redeem it.
With just a small shift, something simple can become meaningful again.
Why Eggs Still Work
Eggs actually make sense.
They represent new life—and that points directly to the resurrection.
Jesus didn’t stay in the grave.
The tomb was empty.
And because of that, we’ve been given new life too.
So instead of removing the eggs…we just give them the right meaning.
How to Do a Resurrection Egg Hunt (Simple Version)
You don’t need to overcomplicate this.
1. Keep your egg hunt
No need to change everything. Let it still be fun.
2. Set the tone before you start
Take 30 seconds and say something simple like:
“Today isn’t about eggs or candy—it’s about the fact that Jesus is alive. These eggs remind us of new life because He didn’t stay in the grave.”
3. Include one empty egg
This is the most important part.
At some point, open one egg together—and make sure it’s empty.
Then say:
“The tomb was empty.”
That’s it.
Simple. Powerful. Memorable.
4. Keep the focus where it belongs
You don’t have to over-teach or turn it into a big lesson.
Just gently point everything back to Jesus.
You Don’t Have to Cancel Traditions
You can redeem them.
You can take what already exists and point it back to truth.
And sometimes, the smallest shifts are the ones that stick the most.
Final Thought
Because the tomb was empty…
everything changed.
And that’s what we’re actually celebrating.
